AI Tool Companies Link to X, LinkedIn and YouTube. Only 8% Link to Reddit — the Platforms Buyers Search Are Missing

Search no longer happens in one place. Someone choosing a piece of software might start on Google, watch a demo on YouTube, read a Reddit thread, check a review site and then ask an AI assistant — and the AI answer, in turn, assembles what it says about a product largely from those other platforms rather than from the product's own website.
That changes a simple question into a useful one: where do companies themselves send people? The links on a home page are a company's own map of where it wants to be found and judged. We read that map for every AI tool company in our directory.

The map: 549 home pages, every link read
On 29 October 2026 we fetched the home page of each AI tool company in our catalogue that answered and kept the 549 whose HTML carried at least ten links. For each page we recorded whether it links to any of 21 platforms: video and social networks, communities, developer and launch platforms, app stores and review sites.
The top of the list is the standard footer: X (59.2%), LinkedIn (51.4%), YouTube (48.8%), Instagram (45%) and Facebook (38.6%) — 242 pages link both X and LinkedIn. TikTok (21.5%) and Discord (18%) are the only other platforms above one in ten.
Then the list falls off a cliff, and the platforms at the bottom are the interesting ones:
| Platform | Home pages linking it | What it is to a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| 44 (8%) | Where people ask other people which tool to use | |
| G2 | 47 (8.6%) | The default B2B software review site |
| Trustpilot | 24 (4.4%) | Consumer reviews |
| Product Hunt | 23 (4.2%) | Launch page with comments and upvotes |
| GitHub | 51 (9.3%) | The code, for developer tools |
| Any of G2, Trustpilot or Product Hunt | 72 (13.1%) |
The platforms that do not appear
The pattern is not that AI tool companies ignore other platforms. It is that they link the platforms where they do the talking — their own posts, their own videos — and rarely the ones where other people talk about them.
That gap matters more than it used to. When an AI answer recommends a tool, it is often summarising those other voices: forum threads, review profiles, comparison articles. A company does not control what is said there, but it can make that conversation easy to find, and it can be present in it. Only 8% of these home pages link to Reddit at all, and only 13.1% link a review profile on G2, Trustpilot or Product Hunt.
A quarter link nowhere
150 of the 549 home pages (27.3%) link no social, video or community platform at all — not even an X account. At the other end, 175 (31.9%) link five or more. The median is three. For a category whose buyers move between YouTube demos, Reddit threads and review sites before they choose, a home page with no outbound map is one place a company can be found, and nothing more.
A multi-platform check for your own brand
- List where your buyers ask, not where you post. For most software that means review sites, a few subreddits and YouTube comparisons — then check whether your home page and help pages point to your presence there.
- Link your review profiles. A badge with no link (we found plenty) proves nothing to a reader or a crawler; the profile behind it does.
- Be present before you link. Linking a subreddit you never take part in invites the wrong kind of attention. Answer questions there first.
- Measure which platforms AI answers actually cite for your category. The answer differs by category, and it decides where effort pays.
Measure the platforms that shape AI answers
Our home-page map shows where companies point people. It cannot show which platforms AI answers actually draw on in a given category, or where competitors are cited and you are not. That is a measurement job.
Find the sources behind your competitors' visibility. Competitor Research, in the AI Visibility Toolkit, lists the domains cited in AI answers that mention your competitors but not you — the review sites, forums and publications to work on first.

Track whether you are cited, and against whom. Visibility Overview shows where AI answers mention and cite your brand, how you compare with competitors and the prompts each of you appears for; the Share of Voice report in Brand Performance shows how that share moves week to week.

Check the tone, not just the count. Brand Performance also covers perception: the sentiment of the AI answers that mention you, platform by platform, set against your competitors. Being cited on a review site that buyers complain on is visibility of a kind, but it does you no favours.

Keep Google in the picture. Google is still one of those platforms, and the largest. Organic Rankings, in the SEO Toolkit, shows a domain's positions and how many of its keywords trigger an AI Overview over time.

Plan content around whole topics. Keyword Strategy Builder groups related keywords into topics and pillar pages, so the content you place on your site — and pitch to other platforms — covers the questions buyers actually ask.

Semrush One bundles the SEO Toolkit and the AI Visibility Toolkit, and the 7-day free trial is Semrush One's — the AI Visibility Toolkit has no free trial of its own. Those are Semrush's published terms, not something we tested; none of the data above came from a Semrush account.

Three links, many platforms
AI tool companies point people to the platforms where they publish — X, LinkedIn, YouTube — and rarely to the ones where buyers compare them. 8% link Reddit, 13.1% link a review profile, and 27.3% link no platform at all. In a search landscape spread across dozens of platforms, the cheapest first move is to find out which of them AI answers cite in your category, and be easy to find there.

- Pages (613 fetched, 549 analysed): the home pages of the AI tool companies in the TheToolsVerse catalogue that answered on 28 October 2026, fetched once on 29 October 2026 with a desktop browser user agent, without running JavaScript. Pages with fewer than ten links in the HTML were excluded.
- Platforms (21): a link counts if any
hrefin the page matches the platform's profile pattern — for exampleyoutube.com/@…or/channel/,linkedin.com/company/,reddit.com/r/or/user/,g2.com/products/,trustpilot.com/review/. Share buttons and intent links (twitter.com/intent,facebook.com/sharer) are excluded. - What this cannot show: whether a company is active on a platform it does not link, or what is said about it there. Links injected by JavaScript are missed. A link to a platform is not a measure of influence on it.
