How we checked: we tried to read the vendor's page and were blocked — details belowsource

We attempted to read QuillBot's public pricing page on 19 August 2026 and were blocked with HTTP 403 — their edge rejects automated requests. The figures below come from our own earlier product record, not from a page we opened on this date, and are published as unconfirmed for that reason.

Editor verification notes

  • HTTP 403 on both https://quillbot.com/pricing and https://www.quillbot.com/premium on 2026-08-19. This is a limitation of our check, not evidence that QuillBot conceals its pricing — the page is publicly readable in a normal browser.
  • No first-party account test was run. We have not exhausted the 125-word cap ourselves.
  • Confirm the current price on QuillBot's own site before acting on these figures.

Checked by the TheToolsVerse Verification Deskby reading the vendor's own published pages, not by testing the product in an account. QuillBot can change prices at any time without notice. The date above is the last time we looked; if it looks old, treat every figure here as unconfirmed and check QuillBot directly before paying.

Editor's Verdict

Official Review
QuillBot is the paraphrasing tool most students and writers actually mean when they say "rewrite this" — a suite built around a paraphraser, grammar checker, summarizer, citation generator and plagiarism check, all in one browser tab. The free tier is genuinely usable and genuinely capped: paraphrasing stops at 125 words per pass, which is roughly one paragraph, so longer work becomes a chore of splitting text into chunks. Premium removes that cap and unlocks the deeper rewriting modes. Best for anyone rewriting or tightening existing text; the wrong tool if you want something to draft from scratch, where a general assistant does more.

Pros

What we like

  • The free tier is real and needs no card — paraphrasing, grammar checking and summarising all work without paying
  • One tab covers paraphrasing, grammar, summarising, citations and plagiarism checking, instead of four separate tools
  • Browser extension and Word add-in put the paraphraser inside documents you already write in
  • Strong with non-native English writing, which is why it spread through student and academic use

Cons

Limitations

  • The free paraphraser caps at 125 words per pass — about one paragraph, so long documents mean constant chunking
  • The deeper rewriting modes and unlimited AI-detection checks are Premium-only
  • No paraphrasing tool can promise its output will pass AI detectors — detection methods change constantly, and any claim otherwise should be treated with suspicion
  • Heavy rewriting can strip nuance and specificity from the original, so output needs reading before it is used

QuillBot has a real free plan with no card required: paraphrasing capped at 125 words per pass, basic humanisation mode, and a limited number of AI-detection checks. Premium is listed at $4.17 per month billed annually, which removes the word cap, opens the advanced rewriting modes, and adds unlimited AI-detection checks plus plagiarism prevention. A Team plan is offered for organisations. These figures come from our own recorded product data — QuillBot's pricing page blocks automated access, so they were not re-checked against the vendor on 19 August 2026 and the monthly (non-annual) Premium price is not recorded.

What is QuillBot?

QuillBot is an AI writing suite built around paraphrasing. It rewrites text in a range of modes, checks grammar and tone, summarises long documents, generates citations, translates, and checks for plagiarism and AI-generated text. It runs in the browser and through extensions for Chrome and Microsoft Word, so the paraphraser is available inside documents rather than as a separate destination. Its core audience is students, researchers and non-native English writers who need to restate existing text clearly rather than generate new text from nothing. The free plan covers paraphrasing at up to 125 words per pass, basic humanisation and a limited number of AI-detection checks. Premium, listed at $4.17 per month when billed annually, removes the word cap, opens the advanced rewriting modes, and adds unlimited AI-detection checks along with plagiarism prevention. A Team plan is available for organisations. The honest limitation worth stating plainly: no rewriting tool can guarantee its output will evade AI-detection systems, because those systems are continuously updated. Treat any tool that promises otherwise with suspicion, and read rewritten passages before submitting them — aggressive paraphrasing tends to flatten the specificity of the original. Frequently Asked Questions

Is QuillBot free?
Yes — there is a real free plan with no card required, covering paraphrasing, grammar checking and summarising. The catch is the paraphraser stops at 125 words per pass, roughly one paragraph, so longer documents have to be fed through in chunks.
What is QuillBot's free word limit?
125 words per paraphrasing pass on the free plan. Premium removes that cap entirely, which is the main reason regular users upgrade.
How much does QuillBot Premium cost?
$4.17 per month when billed annually, per our recorded product data. That unlocks unlimited paraphrasing length, the advanced rewriting modes, unlimited AI-detection checks and plagiarism prevention. We do not have the month-to-month price recorded, and QuillBot's pricing page blocks automated checking, so confirm the current figure on their site before buying.
Will QuillBot's output pass AI detectors?
There is no honest yes to this. AI-detection systems are updated continuously, so no paraphrasing tool can guarantee its output will evade them — and any tool claiming it can should be treated with suspicion. Rewritten text also loses nuance, so it is worth reading before you submit it anywhere.
What is the difference between QuillBot and Grammarly?
Grammarly is a corrector first — it fixes grammar, spelling and tone in text you have already written. QuillBot is a rewriter first — it restates existing text in different words, with grammar checking alongside. Students rewriting sources tend to reach for QuillBot; professionals writing email and documents all day tend to reach for Grammarly.
