Our link pointed at ByteDance's research lab index, where nobody can generate anything. Dreamina, where the model actually runs, states it uses free daily credits — a free tier with a ceiling, so this is freemium.

Seedream runs on Dreamina, ByteDance's consumer image and video tool, and Dreamina answers this directly on its own site: it provides free daily credits, so you can generate without paying up front, with paid plans above that. Daily credits are a free tier with a ceiling, which is why "completely free" has gone. We did not establish how many credits a day you get or what an image costs in credits, and we are not estimating it. Note also that our link previously pointed at seed.bytedance.com — ByteDance's research lab index, where no reader could generate anything. Checked 7 September 2026.
