It works through problems step by step and can call tools such as search, code execution and other APIs across long multi-step tasks. It is a mixture-of-experts model with 1 trillion total parameters, of which 32 billion are active for any token, and a 256K-token context window, according to Moonshot's model card on Hugging Face (moonshotai/Kimi-K2-Thinking). There are three ways to use it: chat in the Kimi app at kimi.com, call Moonshot's API at platform.moonshot.ai, or download the open weights and run them yourself. Self-hosting needs serious GPU hardware; the full weights are far too large for a single consumer graphics card. The weights are released under a Modified MIT License. Read its terms on Hugging Face before using the model in a commercial product. Our older listing linked to kimi.moonshot.ai, an address that never existed, and described the model as "backed by Alibaba" with "no usage costs or limits". Both claims are removed.
