We told readers AI Assistant came with an Acrobat Pro subscription at $19.99/month. It is a separate paid add-on, so the real cost of the combination was understated.

Editor's Verdict

Official Review
Acrobat AI Assistant integrates generative AI into PDF workflows — ask questions about documents, get summaries with source citations, and generate drafts from document content without leaving Acrobat. Multi-document chat maintains context across multiple files for research and legal analysis. Security processing stays within Adobe's ecosystem. The honest constraint is the billing. AI Assistant is not bundled with Acrobat Pro: it is a $1.99/month add-on sold on top of a base plan, so Pro at $19.99/month plus the add-on is the real figure unless you take Acrobat Studio at $24.99/month, which includes it. Either way this is a paid extra rather than a feature you already own, which is a lot of overhead for occasional PDF questions.

Pros

What we like

  • Ask questions and get summarized answers with specific source citations from within any PDF
  • Multi-document chat maintains context across multiple files for cross-document research and analysis
  • Processing stays within Adobe's security infrastructure — no third-party API exposure for sensitive documents
  • Content generation from PDFs (email drafts, presentations) reduces downstream reformatting work

Cons

Limitations

  • Not a standalone tool and not included in Acrobat Pro — it is a $1.99/month add-on on top of a $19.99/month base plan, or Acrobat Studio at $24.99/month
  • Very large documents may hit processing limits that reduce summary quality or require refined queries
  • AI capabilities are tightly coupled to Acrobat's ecosystem — not available outside the Adobe product environment

Pricing

AI Assistant is a separate add-on, not part of Acrobat Pro. Adobe lists it at $1.99/month or $19.99/year on top of a base plan. Acrobat Pro itself is $19.99/month or $239.88/year and does NOT include AI Assistant. Acrobat Studio at $24.99/month or $299.88/year does include it, and is the cheaper route if you want both. A free trial of Acrobat Studio is offered, which covers the AI features. Students and teachers can add AI Assistant to a student Pro plan at the same $1.99/month. An earlier version of this page said AI Assistant required an Acrobat Pro subscription at $19.99/month, which understated the real cost of the combination. Checked 6 September 2026.

What is Acrobat AI by Adobe?

Acrobat AI Assistant by Adobe integrates generative AI directly into PDF workflows, enabling users to ask questions, get instant summaries, and generate content without leaving their documents. Legal professionals, researchers, executives, and students extract insights from lengthy reports while marketers repurpose content efficiently. The tool processes entire PDFs contextually rather than page-by-page. Users highlight text or query entire documents with questions like 'what are the key financial metrics' or 'summarize compliance requirements.' AI delivers precise answers with source citations and generates new content like email drafts or presentations from document data. Multi-document chat maintains context across files for comprehensive analysis. Enterprise-grade security processes files within Adobe's ecosystem without external uploads. Mobile and desktop apps provide consistent experience across devices. Integration with Acrobat's editing tools enables seamless workflow from analysis to modification. A free trial is available through Acrobat Studio. Note that AI Assistant is sold as a paid add-on rather than included in Acrobat Pro — see the pricing section, because this page previously described the arrangement incorrectly. Processing limits apply to very large documents. Complex multi-document queries may require refined phrasing for optimal results. Find related tools.
